The Minister of Community Development and Social Services Honourable Doreen Mwamba has commended the World Bank for their continued support in the Social Protection Sector.
Speaking when World Bank Country Manager Mr. Sahr John Kpundeh and his team paid a courtesy call on the Minister in her office, the Minister stated that the new dawn Government led by President Hakainde Hichilema is grateful to the World Bank for supplementing Government effort through support to various social protection programmes.
The Minister indicated that the new dawn Administration discourages handouts, preferring instead to see a mindset change where citizens are taught how to fish rather than being given for the rest of their lives.
Meanwhile, World Bank Country Manager Mr. Sahr John Kpundeh has complimented the Government for increasing the budget allocation for social protection programmes. He also pledged to work with the Government and the Ministry. The Country Manager congratulated the Minister and the new dawn Government on their election success, and expressed confidence that the social protection programmes will be implemented in a transparent manner. The Country Manager assured the Minister that he has an excellent team that can help the Ministry in redesigning social protection programmes.
