The Ministry of Community Development and Social Services has partnered with the Muslim Social and Welfare Trust to help the community in Chifwema Resettlement to have access to clean and safe drinking water by sinking boreholes in the area. The partnership was necessitated by the lack of clean and safe drinking water in the area and there were calls to government by the people to come to their aid.
The first borehole was sunk with the support of the Muslim Social and Welfare Trust at the cost of K25,000. Handing over the borehole on Saturday 15th January 2022, the Minister of Community Development and Social Services reiterated the importance of working together in order to support the poor and vulnerable in society. At the same event, the Minister handed over food hampers to the families that were donated by the Trust at a cost of K20,000. The community was elated and thanked Government and the Muslim Trust for coming to their aid. They pledged to look after the borehole well so that it would serve them for a long time.
The representative from the Muslim Social and Welfare Trust, Mr. Mehta Mubasshir, said the Trust was committed to giving back to the community and it was good because they were following the principles laid down by God. The Trust gave a commitment to sink another borehole after the rain season was over.
