Ministry of Community Development and Social Services Minister Honourable Doreen Mwamba has observed that notable progress is been made in Zambia`s Social Protection Sector.
Ms. Mwamba however, noted that despite the scale up of programmes such as the Social Cash Transfer and other Social Protection Interventions, very little was known about them.
She called for media coverage of the achievements made in the Social Protection Sector, so that people could appreciate the efforts of Government and its Partners.
The Minister was speaking during the launch of the Ministerial Communication and Advocacy Strategy, the Nutrition Sensitive Social Protection Guidelines and Single Window Implementation Guidelines in Lusaka.
“The media are our partners and we are eager to help Journalists to start reporting effectively on social protection issues,” she said.
And Ms. Mwamba said the three documents launched are key guides to better implementation of Social Protection Programmes in the country.
She said the documents would not only enhance the work of implementers, but also improve coordination in service delivery.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Community Development and Social Services Permanent Secretary Ms. Angela Chomba Kawandami commended Ministry Officials and Cooperating Partners for their role in formulating the three documents.
And United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator Ms. Beatrice Muntali re-affirmed the UN`s support to the Zambian Government towards Social Protection Programmes.
“The UN and Cooperating Partners remain committed to supporting the Government and strengthening the overall joint programme systems to help ensure that social protection is delivered effectively, efficiently and consistently,” Ms. Muntali said.
Speaking at the same event, Cooperating Partners Representative Susanna Hughes commended Government for its commitment to ensuring that Social Protection Programmes reach the most vulnerable across the country.
