
NDOLA-LUSAKA DISABILITY FUNDRAISING, AWARENESS WALK ACCOMPLISHED
A physically challenged Cleric Moses Ngalasiya of Ndola who embarked on a 30-day walk from Ndola to Lusaka has arrived. Reverend Ngalasiya, in company of friends and family covered over 320 kilometres in 22 days to raise money to empower and buy mobility devices for Persons with Disabilities.
The walk was not just about fundraising but also to sensitize and advocate for the rights of persons with disabilities.
Reverend Ngalasiya who was received in Lusaka by Ministry of Community Development and Social Services Permanent Secretary, Angela Chomba Kawandami and Social Welfare Department Director Mr. Nelson Nyangu said challenges faced by persons with disabilities prompted him to take the walk.
He said that a lot of persons with disabilities cannot afford mobility devices such as wheelchairs and clutches, hence making them more vulnerable and helpless.
He also mentioned discrimination as another major challenge that persons with disabilities have continued to face in communities.
And Ms. Kawandami has described Reverend Ngalasiya’s walk as an indicator that disability was not inability.
The Permanent Secretary commended Reverend Ngalasiya for taking a step to advocate for the rights of many persons with disabilities.
She assured that the Ministry in collaboration other stakeholders will continue to advance the rights of persons with disabilities.
Ms. Kawandami also appealed to stakeholders to help provide crutches and wheelchairs for some persons with disabilities.
