Zambian athletes who participated at the Africa Para-Badminton Championship held in Kampala Uganda from 19 to 24 September bagged (1) silver and (5) bronze medals.
The championship had 13 countries participating among them Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Egypt, Zambia, DRC, Uganda, Central Africa Republic, Eritrea, and Ivory Coast.
Zambia minted medals through Josephine Zulu SU5, Martha Chewe SL3, Vienna Hamuchenje SL4, Lucy Kamanga SL3 and Innocent Chabala WH2 respectively.
Said the competition was tough adding that her teammates did not want to disappoint the nation by not coming back home without any medals. She added that players had a wonderful opportunity to showcase the talent Zambia para-badminton has on the field of play.
And Team coach Jennipher Phiri who is also a commissioner for Para-Badminton has called on the corporate world to consider supporting athletes with several prosthetic items to help them compete well. She says the games in Uganda went well and has paid gratitude to those who have shown interest to support the athletes.
