Chipata District Commissioner, Elidah Mwanza Banda, officially launched payments of the 1000 Days Social Cash Transfer Nutrition pilot program in Chipata, Eastern Province.
Speaking during the launch, at Lutembwe Primary School, Mrs Banda implored Beneficiaries to use the funds for the intended purpose of improving nutrition outcomes for children within the 1000 most critical days.
Mrs Banda said the funds were part of the social assistance being provided to households with children below 24 months, pregnant and breastfeeding women in the District, through the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services.
6, 444 Households are expected to benefit from the pilot Program in Chipata District.
Meanwhile, beneficiaries have hailed government for for the support adding that the money would go a long way in improving the Nutrition of their children.
Meanwhile, government, through the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, is piloting a Nutrition Sensitive Social Cash Transfer to support households with pregnant and breastfeeding women and children below 24 months, in Mpika, Mwinilunga, Chipata and Kalabo Districts.
The Ministry applauded the support, in making this initiative possible, that was received from its partners which includes the Government of Ireland, the Government of the Kingdom of Sweden, the Government of Switzerland and the the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, through UNICEF.
