The Ministry of Community Development and Social, is set to celebrate tomorrow’s International Children’s Day of Broadcasting.

Director for Child, Ms. Bridget Moya, notes that children are an integral part of the country’s development agenda, hence the need to accord them opportunities for their empowerment and enrichment in various economic areas.

Ms. Moya was speaking when children from various schools, paid a courtesy call on her at her office, to appreciate what government is doing, and to get insight into various government programmes meant for children empowerment.

“Invest in us, protect us , we are the future” is the theme for this year’s celebration, which Ms. Moya said resounds with government’s agenda to invest in children’s affairs.

She notes that Zambia, like many countries, is seeking ways of promoting children’s rights within a legal framework that is applicable to their welfare.

She says in that quest, the Children’s Code Act was therefore enacted to address legal loopholes in the promotion of their rights.

Ms Moya has since assured that the Ministry has adopted a collaborative and coordinated manner to ensure this year’s celebrations are well organised in an effort to accord children the recognition they deserve.

Ms. Moya further said government is promoting children participation framework in every sector and organization, so that their voices are heard.
