Government has warned motorists and members of the public against giving money to street kids as it is affecting its efforts to provide educational services, capital assistance and skills training.
Community Development and Social Services Minister Doreen Mwamba says the government is aware that street kids receive as high as K3, 000 each every day from motorists and members of the public, which encourages them to continue staying in the streets instead of homes or centers that provide long term solutions.
The minister is concerned that in as much as this gesture may be kind, most money given to street kids is not put to good use.
She has however noted that the number of street kids has reduced especially in Lusaka through various efforts being made to withdraw them from the highways.
