Government has acknowledged the stakeholder participation and collaboration in promoting the safety and well-being of vulnerable and marginalized children in the country.
Speaking during the inspection of the Kids-Alive Lilato Children’ Care Facility in Mongu District, Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, Director for Child Development Ms. Beatrice Muyambango, said Government recognizes the important role child care facilities play in uplifting the living standards of vulnerable children in society.
Kids-Alive Lilato Children’ Care Facility currently has fourteen children comprising twelve girls and two boys.
Ms. Muyambango was impressed to see how well the children are taken care of at the Centre and assured that Government’s will support such efforts in line with the policy and legal provisions as enshrined in the recently enacted the Children Code Act of No.12 of 2022.
She was however worried at the gender imbalance at the facility, and suggested that the centre should consider accommodating more boys as well in order to uplift their wellbeing.
And Kids-Alive Lilato Children’ Care Facility Village Manager, Mr. Kababa Kababa acknowledged the gender disparity, which he said is as a result of security concerns as boys are difficult to manage, considering that the centre is unsecure at the moment.
Mr. Kababa has since appealed to Government through the ministry to help secure the center by constructing a wall fence in order to securely accommodate and manage the facility.
