Various stakeholders have welcomed Government’s resettlement plan for vulnerable people living in selected unplanned compounds in Lusaka.
The move is aimed at decongesting crowded places in the wake of the cholera outbreak, and to provide people with dignified and decent livelihoods.
Government, through the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, in collaboration with the office of the vice president, have so far repatriated 35 families to Kambilombilo in Ndola.
Stakeholders have therefore expressed gratitude for the resettlement initiative, which they say signifies relief and hope for improved living conditions, particularly in the context of mitigating waterborne diseases such as cholera.
Ms Lydia Akatoko thanked President Hakainde Hichilema for such a life-changing gesture to improve the welfare of citizens when she spoke on behalf of other vulnerable people in Matero during an interaction meeting with the Minister of Community Development and Social Services, Ms Doreen Mwamba.
She said people are in full support of this ambitious programme and will embrace its full implementation in line with the Government’s development aspirations.
And the Minister said the response from stakeholders regarding the resettlement plan is overwhelming and encourages Government to do more to improve the lives of the people.
She therefore assured that Government will not abandon those who will be moved to resettlement areas, but will provide all necessary amenities for them to live dignified lives.
Ms Mwamba called for everyone to support Government’s resettlement plans through collaborative efforts towards achieving common goals and addressing pertinent issues affecting the vulnerable people in society.
