Zambia joins the rest of the world to commemorate International Children’s Day of Broadcasting under the theme “Children’s Voices, Children’s Rights-Our Collective Responsibility.”,
A special day for which children take over TV and radio stations to communicate with a worldwide audience in order to raise awareness on issues such as climate change, mental, education among others.
To kick start the commemoration, Minister of Community Development and Social Services, Hon. Doreen Mwamba, Mp. Launched the day to address the nation on various issues concerning children.
Speaking during the launch, Ms. Mwamba said ” This year’s theme resonates well as many young people and children are faced with challenges such as Early Forced Marriages, Alcohol and Substance Abuse, Teen Pregnancies and Sexual and Physical abuse”
She reminded the nation to give a listening ear to the voices of our children as they bring to light the many issues affecting their rights.
Ms. Mwamba also called upon state and non-state actors to come up with appropriate actions to improve the lives of children.
Further, Ms. Mwamba has urged the children and young people to stay away from vices that hinder development like alcohol and substance abuse, immoral behaviour and many other negative habits.
In addition, she encouraged the children to focus on positive aspects of life such as education and skills development to bring the most out of themselves in order to be positive role models to their families, peers and communities.
