Children from all walks of life have today taken over the airwaves to commemorate the International Children’s Day of Broadcasting (ICDB).
On computers, microphones, and studio consoles, the children participated in various broadcasting activities ranging from interactive programs to newscasting, among many others.
This year’s ICDB theme is, “Children’s Voices, Children’s Rights-Our Collective Responsibility”, which the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, has leveraged to ensure that issues of children’s participation in socio-economic activities are enhanced.
Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, Ms Doreen Mwamba, during the launch of the ICDB yesterday, called for enhanced children’s participation in a multifaceted approach.
She reminded the nation to give a listening ear to the voices of children as they bring to light the many issues affecting their rights, as she urged them to stay away from vices that hinder development like alcohol and substance abuse, immoral behaviour and many other negative habits.
The Minister further encouraged the children to focus on positive aspects of life such as education and skills development to bring the most out of themselves to be positive role models to their families, peers, and communities.
Today, the Ministry team joined children in various media houses to appreciate their role and to support their passion for broadcasting.
During the commemoration, children were treated to lunch to energize them to endure the day packed with activities ranging from educational, lifestyle, and health programming on the country’s airwaves.
