
School-going children from Kitwe on the Copperbelt have expressed their appreciation to Government for enacting into law, the Children’s Code in pursuit of the promotion and protection of their rights.
They have cited the Children’s Code Act as a catalyst to comprehensively address various challenges that affect them, and have since pledged to equally supplement the government’s efforts by being responsible citizens.
This came to light during their interaction with officers from the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services at the ongoing 54th International Trade Fair in Ndola.
The students engaged in discussions about the Children’s Code Act, Child Safeguarding and Participation Frameworks and also got insights on their roles and responsibilities.
During the interaction, the students demonstrated a keen understanding of some of the provisions of the Children’s Code Act and its importance and expressed their dedication to upholding the principles outlined in the legislation, pledging to play their part in promoting and protecting their rights within their schools and communities.
One student appreciated that the Children’s Code Act empowers them to know their rights and responsibilities, and pledged to help spread awareness among their peers.
The officers from the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services commended the students for their interest, enthusiasm and commitment.
The 54th International Trade Fair under the theme “Unlocking Economic Potential Through Collaboration and Partnerships”, has provided a valuable platform for the Ministry to interact with various stakeholders to discuss the country’s social protection landscape and what the Government is doing to uplift the lives of the poor and vulnerable across the country.
