World Bank Managing Director Mr. Wencai Zhang has reaffirmed the Bank´s support to Zambia towards improving the livelihoods of vulnerable and poor people in the country.
Speaking in Chibombo District, Mr. Zhang expressed satisfaction with the implementation of social protection programs in Zambia, particularly those supported by the World Bank such as the Social Cash Transfer, Supporting Women´s Livelihoods and Keeping Girls in School.
He noted that such programs were crucial for providing assistance and opportunities to those who need it most, hence contributing significantly to poverty reduction and socio-economic development in Zambia.
“The effectiveness of these programs is evident in the various income-generating activities that beneficiaries are engaged in, therefore the Zambian Government should continue investing in people,” Mr. Zhang said.
And Ministry of Community Development and Social Services Permanent Secretary Ms. Angela Kawandami appreciated the World Bank’s support, particularly noting its importance during periods of hardship such as the drought affecting a large portion of Zambia’s population.
“We pledge to continue working tirelessly for the good of our people,” Ms. Kawandami said.
Mr. Zhang is in Zambia to monitor various projects that supported by the World Bank.
His visit also highlights the collaborative efforts between Zambia and the World Bank in addressing social challenges and promoting sustainable development in the country.
