The 1000 Days nutrition programme, an intervention implemented by the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services with support from the United Nations in Zambia and Cooperating Partners, provides essential support to pregnant women and children under the age of 2 years.
The program promotes access to adequate nutrition and healthcare during this vital phase, setting children up for a healthy and prosperous life.
Built on the principle that every child has the right to nutrition, healthcare, and a healthy life, the 1000 Days initiative empowers mothers and caregivers to make informed choices about their children’s health, shaping their future.
This came to light when Florence Malabi, a community facilitator based Kabwe district, emphasized the importance of adequate nutrition, stating that “a mother needs enough nutritious food to have a healthy child and noted that nutritional support is a child’s right.”
As a society, it is our collective responsibility to support initiatives like the 1000 Days program, upholding children’s rights to a healthy and fulfilling life, by working together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of future generations.
