
The Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities has handed over 75 assistive devices to Persons with Disabilities, marking a significant step towards inclusive support and empowerment
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, Permanent Secretary, Ms. Angela Kawandami stressed the importance of tailoring assistive devices to meet the unique needs of each individual, ensuring maximum impact and empowerment.
Ms. Kawandami noted that the initiative demonstrates collective efforts by ZAPD, the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services and stakeholders towards creating an inclusive society, promoting equal opportunities and empowering individuals with disabilities to reach their full potential in Zambia.
And speaking at the same event, Israel Ambassador to Zambia, Ofra Farhi emphasized the importance of ensuring everyone is taken care of, particularly the most vulnerable, and highlighted the need for persons with disabilities to have an equal and fulfilling life.
Meanwhile, Zambia Agency for Persons with Persons Disabilities, Director General, Mr. Frankson Musukwa, said “The provision of assistive devices demonstrates Government’s commitment to addressing mobility challenges faced by vulnerable members of society.
He committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in the distribution process so that these devices reach those who need them most.”
And giving a vote of thanks on behalf of beneficiaries, Ms. Christina Jere, a businesswoman and mother, expressed heartfelt gratitude as she received a wheelchair for her daughter. She shared that the wheelchair will greatly ease her daughter’s mobility, allowing her to move around freely and feed while comfortably seated, thereby reducing the strain of constantly carrying her on the back.
