Children from across the country yesterday convened in Lusaka at a consultative meeting to discuss “ending violence against children”.
The gathering was in the spirit of enhancing participation and children’s dialogue in matters affecting their social, economic, religious, cultural and political spheres of life and in preparation for a global conference scheduled to take place later this year.
Speaking during the meeting, the Director for Child Development, Ms. Beatrice Muyambango assured that the voices of children matter, and their insights are incredibly valuable as government works to address and end violence against children.
She said children are major stakeholders in the decision-making processes and such interactions are therefore important in championing their welfare.
Ms. Muyambango further assured that the government remains committed to ending all forms of violence against children through the implementation of measures aimed at protecting, promoting and upholding their rights.
She said this in a speech read on her behalf by Chief Child Development Officer, Mr Luckson Chipampa.
