In an effort to engage with the community and raise awareness on Social Protection Programmes, the Ministry is conducting a series of community sensitisation meetings aimed at educating communities on a number of Drought Response interventions available & how to access them.
These meetings are designed to bridge the information gaps related to Emergency Wetlands Cropping, Emergency Cash Transfers Cash for Work among others, which are crucial for community development.
The team noted that drought response initiatives are particularly relevant as they aim to support families affected by the recent hunger crisis in the country.
During the meetings, the officials emphasised the importance of understanding the guidelines and procedures, ensuring that community members are well-informed on how to access the support and resources that meant significantly to improve their socio-economic conditions.
In addition to discussing procedures, the team also shed light on child protection services, adding that the Children’s Code Act of 2024 was not enacted to give children power over their parents and guidians but provide parental responsibilities.
And Lwanginga Ward area Councillor, Muyunda Sitwala thanked community members for the attendance and urged them to take part in these meetings to stay informed on drought response interventions and the various resources accessible to them through social protection.
Mr. Sitwala further noted that government was committed to ensuring that no one is left behind and that all community members have the opportunity to benefit from the programmes designed to improve their welfare.
