Social Cash Transfer (SCT) and Emergency Cash Transfer (ECT) beneficiaries have commended the Government and its Cooperating Partners for the life-changing impact these initiatives have brought to their communities.
In Chilanga District, beneficiaries like 66 year old Ireen Theu, a widow caring for seven children, and 26 year old Enelesi Kanyongani, a lactating mother, have shared how these programmes have improved their lives.
Ireen, a beneficiary under the female-headed household category of the SCT programme, expressed gratitude for the support, which has enabled her to own a small business amidst difficult circumstances exacerbated by the drought.
“Being a widow and having a disability while caring for seven children has not been easy, but the SCT programme has cushioned us and brought us stability,” she stated.
Enelesi, benefiting from the ECT as a lactating mother and also a food trader, highlighted the programme’s role in enhancing her family’s nutritional needs which has enabled her to care for her baby adequately.
“Through the ECT, my nutritional status has improved, which has allowed me to raise a healthy baby,” Enelesi said with appreciation.
Both Ireen and Enelesi have since appreciated the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services for its efficient and transparent management of the programmes ensuring timely disbursement of funds.
Their sentiments were echoed following a recent meeting with Ministry Permanent Secretary Ms. Angela Kawandami and Ambassador Tiffany Sadler, Head of the Africa Directorate for Central and Southern Africa at the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
