The shift from traditional to digital disbursements of Social Cash Transfer (SCT) payments has been a transformative development for many elderly beneficiaries and those with mobility challenges.
Government through the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services has facilitated this transition, which is already making a notable difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals across the country.
Ms. Memory Ng’andu, among many other beneficiaries from Monze in Southern Province, have expressed gratitude to the government for this innovation, which has addressed significant challenges she faced, such as travelling to distant pay points to collect her money despite her old age.
Ms. Nga’ndu can now receive her SCT payments directly on her mobile phone every two months, without leaving her home, a situation she says has given her a renewed sense of financial security and dignity.
“I feel secure and at ease knowing my money will reach me, even if I can’t leave my home,” Ms. Ng’andu shared, appreciating the transparency and efficiency that digital payments have brought to the SCT programme.
She further confessed that the digitalization of SCT payments has not only enhanced accessibility but also promoted transparency, accountability, and financial inclusion as each transaction can be tracked on her phone.
