
The Zambia Agency for Persons with Disability (ZAPD) has officially launched a pioneering Digital Mobile Offline Registration system in Kazungula district, Southern Province.
This innovative system, developed by the University of Zambia, is designed to enhance the registration process for persons with disabilities to promote inclusivity, accessibility, and transparency.
The system also can register individuals even when offline, and seamlessly updates records once internet connectivity is restored to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
Speaking during the launch, the Southern Province Minister, Mr. Credo Nanjuwa echoed government’s commitment to improving the lives of persons with disabilities.
Ministry of Community Development and Social Services Permanent Secretary, Ms. Angela Kawandami, represented by Director for Social Welfare Mr. Nelson Nyangu, emphasized the significance of the Digital Mobile Offline Registration system in ensuring that persons with disabilities in hard-to-reach areas are registered and able to access various social protection and other services.
Meanwhile, Professor Beatrice Matafwali, Representing the Vice-Chancellor for UNZA said that,” the University of Zambia (UNZA) continues to leverage its expertise to create transformative solutions.”
And ZAPD Director General Mr. Frankson Musukwa, highlighted the importance of the Digital Mobile Offline Registration system, stating that it will help ensure that persons with disabilities are registered in a timely and efficient manner.
International Labour Organization (ILO) Country Director for Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique, Mr. Wellington Chibebe, also reiterated ILO’s commitment to supporting the Zambian government in strengthening systems and frameworks that enhance the inclusion and empowerment of persons with disabilities.
On behalf of persons living with disabilities, Mr. Bright Lingungu Imasiko expressed heartfelt gratitude towards the government and its partners for prioritizing their needs and ensuring they live a life not different from others.
