
The Government, through the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, has reiterated its commitment to promoting skills development as a key strategy to combat poverty, reduce unemployment, and enhance human development.
The assurance was made during the 4th graduation ceremony at the Catholic-run Mother Marrieta Community Training Institute in Lusaka, where 97 students graduated in various life-changing courses such as general hospitality, tailoring and designing, and computer skills among others.
Representing the acting Director for Community Development Mr. Aaron Phiri, Senior Community Development Officer Mr. Kapalu Muswala, emphasized that equipping citizens with practical skills is critical in addressing vulnerabilities and reducing social inequalities.
He further encouraged the graduates to remain focused, determined, and ready to face new challenges as they embark on their professional journeys.
He further implored them to consider forming cooperatives and utilizing the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to establish businesses, thereby creating employment opportunities instead of relying on formal employment.
And Marieta Community Training Institute Sister in Charge Ms. Clare Ngozi Ogoko expressed gratitude to the Government for its support in advancing skills development across the country which she said plays a critical role in alleviating poverty and reducing unemployment in local communities.
In a vote of thanks, a graduate, Carol Miti urged her fellow graduates to use their newly acquired skills professionally and ethically to contribute positively to societal transformation.
