
Visiting UK Minister for Development at the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, Ms. Anneliese Dodds is happy with the positive impact of the various social protection programmes being implemented in the country.
During a field visit in Chongwe, Ms. Dodds accompanied by British High Commissioner, Mr Sam Waldock and Ministry of Community Development and Permanent Secretary, Ms. Angela Kawandami, appreciated the diversity of social protection programmes and their impacts on vulnerable populations.
She interacted with Social Cash Transfer and Supporting Women’s Livelihoods beneficiaries whose dedication to improving their own lives through the programmes was evident and appreciated.
Ms. Dodds was amazed at the preservation methods of a variety of foods which unfortunately is being threatened by the prevailing drought situation.
And Ministry of Community Development and Social Services Permanent Secretary, Ms. Angela Kawandami described the visit by Ms. Dodds as integral not only in cementing Zambia and UK relations but also in appreciating the positive impacts of the empowerment programmes.
Ms. Kawandami appreciated the UK government for supporting Zambia in its quest to improve the welfare of the poor and vulnerable across the country as she pledged commitment to effective service delivery of the UK-supported empowerment programmes.
Meanwhile, Supporting Women’s Livelihoods beneficiary, Mary Phiri of
Madalisto Saving Group is elated at Ms. Dodds Visit, describing it as uplifting and encouraging especially during a time when the government is navigating the drought situation to improve the lives of the poor people in many parts of the country.
