
The Food Security Pack (FSP) emergency drought response initiative in Western Province is yielding positive results, bringing hope to communities affected by the drought.
The combined efforts of the traditional and wetlands emergency response programmes have led to improved yields of crops such as butternuts, orange maize, okra, and other assorted vegetables in Kaoma, Mongu and Nalolo Districts.
During a monitoring exercise of the FSP programme, led by Acting Director for Community Development Mr. Changano Ngoi, beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the government’s timely intervention amidst the drought situation.
They highlighted how the programme has been a lifeline during these challenging times enabling them to have a dignified life and hope for the future.
Beneficiaries like Lungowe Liopu, Muyanga Situmebeko, and Mushamuko Lubasi, whose fields have performed exceptionally well, shared their optimism about achieving enhanced domestic food and nutritional security despite the drought.
And Western Province Permanent Secretary, Mr. Akapelwa Simomo who described the FSP programme as a life and game changer, said it is a relief that the Province has received some favorable rainfall in the last few weeks.
Speaking during the field visits, Mr. Ngoi expressed happiness with the success of the FSP emergency response and emphasized the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for farmers to boost their productivity.
