Government through the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services has handed over agricultural equipment to Food Security Pack (FSP) beneficiaries worth over K1.2 Million to 16 communities in Nsama district of Northern Province.
The equipment bought from paybacks by Government on behalf of the beneficiaries is meant to enhance agricultural productivity and mechanization.
Speaking when she handed over a tractor, 3 hammer mills, a rice mill and 4 maize shellers, Ministry of Community Development and Social Services Permanent Secretary Ms. Angela Kawandami said the equipment will undoubtedly enhance agricultural mechanization and address the inter-generational transfer of poverty.
In line with President Hakainde Hichilema’s sustainable food security agenda coupled with the procurement of the equipment, Ms. Kawandami encouraged beneficiaries to do two farming cycles to increase productivity as opposed to depending on conventional rainfall which has unfortunately been affected by climate change challenges.
The Permanent Secretary has since encouraged FSP beneficiaries to pay back from their produce to facilitate sustainable community development projects to enhance food security and promote self sustainability.
And Senior Chief Nsama appreciated government for such a life-changing programme which continues to empower rural communities with modern agriculture equipment for increased productivity.
He said the traditional leadership is happy with government’s development agenda especially at community level, and therefore encouraged beneficiaries to seize the opportunity to increase agricultural production.
Nsama District Commissioner, Mr. Steward Katele also hailed the impact of the FSP programme and encouraged beneficiaries to jealously take care of the equipment.
