LUSAKA, 22nd January, 2025: The Ministry of Community Development and Social Services has signed an expanded Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Mulungushi University.
This expanded MOU builds upon the initial agreement signed in January 2017, which primarily focused on the affiliation of the Diploma in Social Work program offered at the two Community Development Staff Training Colleges in Kitwe and Monze, under the Ministry’s auspices.
The new MOU broadens the scope of collaboration to include expert training and capacity building, joint program implementation and review, collaborative research, enhanced program outcomes, student attachments and internships, staff exchange visits, and the offering of short- and long-term courses.
These initiatives will lead to the accumulation of academic credits, which will ultimately culminate in the conferring of certificates, degrees, or postgraduate qualifications, as approved by the Mulungushi University Senate.
Speaking during the signing ceremony held at the Ministry’s headquarters, Permanent Secretary Ms. Angela Kawandami emphasized that the MOU will significantly enhance the capacity of professionals readiness to address the pressing challenges facing society.
“This MOU represents a key milestone in our efforts to elevate social work and community development programs, which will help meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in these vital fields,” said the Permanent Secretary.
“This is not merely a document but a collaborative framework to build a cadre of professionals who will serve as agents of change in their communities. It reflects our collective commitment to investing in human capital and driving sustainable development,” she added.
Mulungushi University Vice Chancellor, Ambassador Professor Royson Mukwena, expressed his gratitude to the Ministry for continually recognizing the University as a strategic partner in national development.
He highlighted the learning institutions involvement in various programs of national significance.
He further reaffirmed his confidence that the partnership will continue to strengthen the mutual benefit of both institutions and the country as a whole.
