Chavuma, Northwestern Province – Over 30 beneficiaries of the Keeping Girls in School (KGS) program in Chavuma District have successfully enrolled at Chavuma College of Nursing and Midwifery, pursuing nursing careers.
The KGS program, a government initiative been implemented by Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, aims to support vulnerable young girls in accessing education and reducing early marriages.
Chavuma District Commissioner Mr. Geoffrey Chasomba is elated by the development and has reaffirmed that social protection programs such as KGS are having a huge impact on the vulnerable communities.
“Government remains committed to implementing social protection programs as a way of improving the well being of its citizens and alleviating poverty levels, ” he said.
Mr. Chasomba encouraged other girls who are yet to go to college but come from vulnerable families to take advantage of the initiative and stand a chance of being enrolled into college.
District Social Welfare Officer Mr. Mwape Ng’andu urged the beneficiaries to remain focused and work hard and bring positive change to their communities and society at large.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, Ms. Sandra Akufuna expressed gratitude to the government for its continued support in ensuring girls education.
