The Ministry of Community Development and Social Services (MCDSS) and the Lions Club of Acacia have engaged in discussions to explore potential collaborations aimed at enhancing the lives of vulnerable individuals in Zambia.
During a courtesy call, Ministry Permanent Secretary, Ms. Angela Kawandami, commended the Lions Club of Acacia for its longstanding commitment to supporting underprivileged communities.
She specifically acknowledged the Club’s recent visit to the Zambia Library, Cultural, and Skills Centre for the Visually Impaired and welcomed its interest in supporting the institution’s objectives.
She further noted that a technical working group would be formed to identify additional areas of collaboration.
Ms. Kawandami highlighted the significance of this partnership, particularly in transcribing national documents into accessible formats, a crucial step in promoting literacy and socio-economic independence for individuals with visual impairments.
She also recognized the Lions Club’s contributions in sight preservation, diabetes awareness, childhood cancer, environmental management, and hunger eradication, emphasizing their role in fostering a more inclusive and equitable society.
Reaffirming the Ministry’s dedication to strategic partnerships, she expressed optimism that working with organizations like the Lions Club of Acacia would strengthen efforts to improve the welfare of persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
Lions Club of Acacia President, Ms. Ella Kalimina Wina, commended the government, through the Ministry, for its various initiatives and social protection programs that positively impact vulnerable populations.
She stressed the importance of collective action in addressing socio-economic challenges and reiterated the Club’s commitment to identifying additional areas for collaboration with the Ministry to provide holistic support to those in need.
