The Ministry of Community Development and Social Services has once again handed over agricultural equipment worth over K662,000 to 13 Community Welfare Assistance Committees (CWACs) under the Food Security Pack (FSP) programme.
The assortment of equipment among them, oil expellers, maize shellers, an incubator, peanut butter machines, and hammer mills were procured using recoveries from the FSP programme reinforcing the ministry’s commitment to reinvesting in communities and creating viable graduation pathways.
Mazabuka District Commissioner, Mr. Oliver Mulomba, officiated at the handover ceremony and described the development as a significant milestone in promoting food security and sustainable community empowerment.
“This initiative is a major step forward in ensuring that communities have the necessary tools to enhance their agricultural productivity and economic independence. I urge all stakeholders to fully support the government through the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services in sustaining this life-changing programme,” said Mr. Mulomba.
He commended the beneficiaries for adhering to the FSP guidelines, which require them to repay a portion of their produce, enabling the reinvestment into more agricultural equipment.
“I am glad that beneficiaries complied with the FSP repayment system, and today, their contributions have transformed into the equipment we are witnessing. This demonstrates the sustainability of the programme, and I urge all recipients to use and protect these tools responsibly,” he added.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Nachipooma FSP Club Chairperson, Gertrude Cheelo, expressed gratitude to the government for implementing initiatives that empower farmers to become self-sustainable and food secure.
“We appreciate the government for continuously introducing programmes that uplift small-scale farmers and enhance food security in our communities. This equipment will go a long way in improving productivity and boosting incomes,” Ms. Cheelo stated.
