Matero After Care Centre, a home for the aged, run under the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services has received a boost in its energy supply, following the handover of a solar system by Entrepreneurs Financial Centre (EFC).
The donation, received by Minister of Community Development and Social Services, Ms. Doreen Mwamba, is expected to enhance the quality of life at the center, and also provide uninterrupted care for its residents.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Ms. Mwamba expressed gratitude to EFC, emphasizing that the initiative aligns with the urgent need for sustainable and environmentally friendly energy solutions in response to the effects of climate change.
She said the centre being home to people from different vulnerable backgrounds, requires stakeholder collaboration to accord them dignified lives regardless of their social status.
“Even vulnerability requires dignity”, Ms Mwamba said, and reaffirmed government’s commitment to protecting the dignity and welfare of vulnerable citizens at all levels.
Ms. Mwamba further encouraged older persons across the country and assured them that government is steadfast in addressing the various challenges they face.
And EFC Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Bedah Salasini, appreciated the strong collaboration between the government and EFC in fostering sustainable human development.
“We believe this donation is just the beginning of many more positive initiatives that will contribute to improving livelihoods, especially for the poor and vulnerable,” Mr. Salasini said.
In her vote of thanks, Ms. Bernadette Mwansa, a representative from the centre, expressed appreciation to both the government and EFC for the solar system which she said will provide much-needed relief, particularly during load-shedding periods.
