The Ministry of Community Development and Social Services has received a donation of assorted items valued at $20,000 from Coco Dao WEB3 Global Development Foundation to support the vulnerable in Kaumbwe Constituency of Eastern Province.
Ministry Permanent Secretary Ms. Angela Kawandami, who received the donation comprising books, school bags and mattresses expressed gratitude to the foundation for the timely support which she said will significantly complement government efforts to alleviate poverty and improve the livelihoods of vulnerable people.
Ms. Kawandami highlighted several ongoing government poverty reduction initiatives, including the Social Cash Transfer Programme, Food Security Pack, women empowerment programmes, and skills development initiatives.
She further emphasized the government’s commitment to inclusive social protection through the National Social Protection Policy launched in March designed to promote a life-cycle approach aimed at systematically addressing vulnerabilities at different stages of life.
“The government alone cannot bring poverty levels down but it requires concerted efforts of all partners and therefore, we do not take the support of all our partners for granted, but we embrace supplementary programmes that are being implemented to support the poor”, MS. Kawandami stated.
Kaumbwe Member of Parliament, Dr. Aaron Mwanza, also extended his appreciation to the Ministry for selecting his constituency to benefit from the donation and expressed optimism that the support would positively impact the lives of the poor and vulnerable in the area.
Meanwhile, Coco Dao WEB3 Global Development Foundation representative in Zambia Mr. Ziji Xiao, reiterated their commitment to ongoing collaboration with the Zambian government.
“Today’s donation is just the beginning. In the future, we aim to engage in comprehensive partnerships across key sectors such as education and healthcare, further contributing to Zambia’s prosperity and development,” Mr. Xiao said.
