Government has commended the Development Aid from People to People in Zambia (DAPP) for complimenting its efforts in empowering communities to take control of their welfare.
Speaking when she graced the media breakfast to launch the 2024 DAPP Progress Report, Community Development and Social Services Permanent Secretary Ms. Angela Kawandami stated that development is only effective and sustainable when carried out by the people, and not merely for them.
“With a strong focus on rural communities, DAPP works alongside farmers, youths, women and vulnerable groups ensuring that the benefits of development reach those who need them the most,” she said.
Ms. Kawandami described DAPP as a reliable and knowledgeable national implementing partner who has reached over one million people in 86 districts of Zambia through people centred projects in health, education, agriculture and climate change projects.
She added that the organisation is a friend that stays, with over 40 years of operating in Zambia prioritising long term impact over short term relief.
“You may have known DAPP for selling clothes and shoes but it also directly and indirectly supports job creation and funds social development programmes across the country,” Ms. Kawandami stated.
DAPP Zambia Managing Director Elise Soerensen reiterated the organisations commitment to strethening resilience and fostering innovation for sustainable development among communities across the nation despite many emerging challenges.
She urged all stakeholders such as government, civil society organisations among others to prioritize interventions to get more out of limited resources in the development sector.
