The Department of Community Development under the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services has received 21 motorbikes to enhance its operations in Western Province.
The motorbikes, which were officially handed over by the government, are expected to improve mobility and service delivery in remote communities across the province.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Mr. Ndumba Samakayi, the Provincial Coordinator for Community Development in Western Province, expressed gratitude to the government for the timely support.
He noted that the motorbikes would significantly boost the department’s ability to reach vulnerable but viable communities with key development programmes.
“The motorbikes will ease transport challenges and enable our field staff to effectively implement life-changing programmes such as the Food Security Pack, Community Skills Development, Community Self Help Initiative, and the Livelihood and Empowerment Support Scheme.”
The event was officiated by Western Province Deputy Permanent Secretary, Mr. Richard Mulwanda, who represented the Provincial Permanent Secretary, Mr. Simomo Akapelwa.
Mr. Mulwanda reaffirmed government’s commitment to decentralizing development and ensuring that no one is left behind, especially in rural areas.
In a message delivered on his behalf, Mr. Simomo Akapelwa stated that the gesture is a demonstration of government’s unwavering commitment to improving service delivery in communities.
“We are determined to equip our frontline officers with the tools they need to reach every corner of the province with essential development services.” He further said.
According to a statement issued by Western Province Principal Public Relations Officer, Mr Mwakoi Njekwa, the Permanent Secretary further urged the recipients to use the motorbikes responsibly and maintain them well to ensure long-term benefits for the communities they serve.
