
A delegation from The Hunger Project in Zambia, a non profit organization, this afternoon paid a courtesy call on the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services (MCDSS) Permanent Secretary, Ms. Angela Kawandami with a call to foster areas of cooperation.
Hunger Project Zambia Country Director Mr. Samuel Mutambo said the Organization has prioritized Water, Sanitation and Hygiene(WASH), agriculture, community empowerment through village savings and improving nutrition among mothers of children below five years.
He added that the Project is also working towards increasing food productivity by promoting indigenous seeds.
He stated that the project is community led as a way of addressing poverty at the grassroots level.
He indicated that the Organization which is currently operating in three Districts in Eastern Province namely, Vubwi, Chipangali and Sinda intends to scale up its area of operation to other provinces so that communities can have a sustainable future free from hunger.
And the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Ms. Angela Kawandami commended the Hunger Project for complementing governments efforts in actualizing Sustainable Development Goal 2, which calls for an end to hunger, the achievement of food security, improved nutrition, and the promotion of sustainable agriculture by 2030.
The PS expressed optimism to further cooperation with Hunger Project as its model of grassroots engagement and self-reliance resonates strongly with the Ministry’s vision of inclusive development.
