The Ministry of Community Development and Social Services has commended the second phase of a donation of 200 assorted assistive devices by Joni and Friends and Kabwata Baptist Church to the Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities (ZAPD) in Lusaka.
The life-changing donation, made in partnership with Shoprite, aims to restore mobility and create new opportunities for persons with disabilities.
Permanent Secretary, Ms. Angela Kawandami, described the gesture as a significant step in the collective effort to give persons with disabilities hope for a brighter future.
Last year, Ms. Kawandami received a donation of 450 wheelchairs worth K2.5 million from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, targeting persons with disabilities in Western, Southern, Luapula, Eastern, and Muchinga Provinces.
She reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to addressing mobility barriers and expressed gratitude to various stakeholders for their contributions towards improving the lives of persons with disabilities.
Ms. Kawandami further noted that the provision of assistive devices serves as a launchpad for improved access to basic education, skills training aligned with labour market demands, and employment opportunities tailored to individual skills, interests, and abilities.
