The Ministry of Community Development and Social Services has commenced the July-August payments of the Social Cash Transfer (SCT).
Minister Doreen Mwamba monitored the digital payments during a meeting with social protection programme beneficiaries in Kalomo District.
The Minister highlighted the efficiency brought about by digitising the payment systems, stating that payments are now made at a click of a button to pay a million beneficiaries, allowing real time tracking and enhancing transparency and accountability.
She also urged payment service providers to improve their services to facilitate beneficiaries easy access to their payments, especially those in rural areas.
The Minister therefore reiterated government’s commitment to building a Zambia where no one is left behind, and where dignity, opportunity, and resilience are rights enjoyed by all.
During her monitoring of Southern Province, the Minister also officially announced the launch of the 2025 scale-up of Social Cash Transfer beneficiaries from the current 1.3 million to 1.5 million households and Supporting Women’s Livelihood (SWL) programme which will incorporate 96,000 new women beneficiaries countrywide.
The Minister added that the 2025 scale up of SCT and SWL programmes demonstrate government’s resolve to promote financial inclusion and resilience for the poor and vulnerable households.
Ms Mwamba has since concluded her tour of Southern Province where she monitored the implementation of the various social protection programmes in Chikankata, Mazabuka, Monze, Choma, Namwala and Kalomo.
