
Minister of Community Development and Social Services, Ms. Doreen Mwamba, has lauded the crucial role cooperating partners play in supporting Zambia’s social protection agenda.
Speaking during her recent visit to Kalomo District in Southern Province, Ms. Mwamba acknowledged the significant contributions of partners, among others, the World Bank, Swedish Government, Republic of Ireland, UK, Germany, and Switzerland.
“I wish to acknowledge the support of our cooperating partners including the World Bank, Swedish government, the Republic of Ireland, the UK, Germany and Switzerland for their continued investment in Zambia’s social protection agenda,” she said.
She stated that these partnerships have enabled the government to expand its social protection programmes, reaching more vulnerable households and individuals.
The Minister highlighted the government’s continued commitment to deliver for the people through scaling up the Social Cash Transfer and Supporting Women’s Livelihood programmes which provide financial support and economic opportunities to promote inclusive development and poverty reduction.
The Social Cash Transfer programme has grown significantly since its inception in 2003, from 169 in households in Kalomo to over 1.3 million households nationwide today.
The Community Development and Social Services Minister emphasized the importance of continued collaboration with cooperating partners in driving national development and building a Zambia where no one is left behind.
