The British High Commissioner to Zambia, Ms. Rebecca Terzeon, has commended the Zambian Government for its resilience and effectiveness in responding to the drought and other emergencies.
Speaking when she paid a courtesy call on Copperbelt Minister, Mr. Elisha Matambo, Ms. Terzeon acknowledged the government’s commitment to supporting the poor and vulnerable through various social protection initiatives designed to uplift livelihoods.
She highlighted that the UK values its strong bilateral relations with Zambia, which have enabled the successful implementation of a wide range of social protection programmes such as Keeping Girls in School (KGS), Supporting Women’s Livelihoods (SWL), and the Social Cash Transfer (SCT).
Ms. Terzeon, who is in the province to interact with social protection beneficiaries in Masaiti District, further praised the government’s efforts in building resilient communities through the rollout of these programmes.
Meanwhile, Mr. Matambo hailed the UK as an “all-weather friend” in times of crisis and noted that Zambia has made tremendous progress in various sectors of the economy under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, with notable socio-economic benefits for citizens.
He further expressed appreciation for the UK’s continued support to social protection interventions, describing them as a “game changer” in improving the lives of citizens not only on the Copperbelt but across the country.
