
Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, Permanent Secretary, Ms. Angela Kawandami, has urged the recently appointed board members of the Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities (ZAPD) to uphold strong governance, accountability, and collaboration in delivering inclusive services.
In a speech delivered on her behalf by Director of Social Welfare, Mr. Morris Moono, during the ZAPD Board induction meeting today, Ms. Kawandami emphasized the need for the members to understand their roles and responsibilities.
She described the induction as a vital platform to equip the board with knowledge of the Agency’s mandate, governance structures, and legal framework, stressing that effective leadership depends on transparency, accountability, and teamwork.
Ms. Kawandami further highlighted ZAPD’s critical role in promoting inclusion and protecting the rights of persons with disabilities, noting that the board’s leadership would be key to strengthening service delivery.
Meanwhile, Board Chairperson Mr. Sylvester Katontoka reaffirmed the board’s commitment to integrity and high standards of corporate governance, stating that the induction had enhanced their understanding of their responsibilities and reinforced the need to serve with diligence and selflessness.
“The decisions we make today must strengthen ZAPD for generations to come and improve the lives of persons with disabilities across Zambia,” he said.
