
The Zambian and Turkish governments have held discussions aimed at exploring possible areas of cooperation in human development, social protection and other key sectors through strengthened social and cultural relations.
Ministry of Community Development and Social Services Permanent Secretary, Ms Angela Kawandami, during a courtesy call by Turkish Embassy Commercial Counsellor Mr. Suat Gulsoy, emphasized the need for continued collaboration anchored on the strong bilateral relations existing between the two countries.
Mr. Gulsoy expressed Turkey’s willingness to support the Zambian Government through the Ministry in various areas, including technical support, humanitarian aid and social support initiatives.
He further commended Zambia’s conducive political and economic environment, which he described as a key prerequisite for sustainable human development and investment.
Meanwhile, Turkish Business Council Chairperson Dr. Cihangir Fikri Saatcioglu reiterated the importance of continued collaboration in capacity building, exchange programmes and digital transformation initiatives aimed at improving people’s livelihoods.
And in response, Ms Kawandami welcomed the Turkish Government’s expression of interest in supporting Zambia across various sectors.
She noted that the support comes at a critical time when the Ministry is working tirelessly to establish a comprehensive social registry aimed at enhancing the effective management of the country’s social protection database.
The Permanent Secretary further highlighted the need for increased support towards women empowerment programmes in order to strengthen social support systems and promote sustainable graduation pathways for vulnerable communities.
