Government has released K1.4 billion for the May–June 2026 Social Cash Transfer (SCT) payment cycle.

Ministry of Community Development and Social Services Permanent Secretary Ms. Angela Kawandami says this brings the total amount disbursed under the programme since January 2026 to K4.3 billion, against the K8.5 billion provided for in the 2026 National Budget and Supplementary Budget.

Ms. Kawandami says payments commenced on 29th June 2026 and will benefit over 1.5 million poor and vulnerable households across the country.

Ms. Kawandami says Government has continued to advance the digitisation of the programme through electronic payments, with 92% of beneficiary households now receiving their transfers electronically. She has since encouraged beneficiaries to check their mobile money or bank wallets with their respective payment service providers.

“The digitisation of Social Cash Transfer payments has improved efficiency, transparency and accountability, while ensuring faster and more secure delivery of funds to beneficiaries,” Ms. Kawandami said.

The Permanent Secretary has further reiterated Government’s commitment to strengthening social protection programmes to ensure that vulnerable citizens receive the support they need.

“The Social Cash Transfer Programme remains one of Government’s key social protection interventions, helping vulnerable households meet their basic needs, improve food security and build sustainable livelihoods. The programme also continues to stimulate local economies by injecting over K1.4 billion into communities every two months,” she said.
